Am I diabetic? - Advice please?

I often feel dizzy, lightheaded and have difficulty focusing, Some day (to put it bluntly) I frequently pass lot of water.But I'm not always like this some days i'm fine.
I've desribed this to my work colleages and they recon that it might be diabetes, but when I got a sugar/urine sample done they said it looked fine.
I don't fully trust my doctor as they have missed a number of serious diagnosis, (e.g. a broken back!)Is anyone in the same boat? how accurate is the urine tests?
Could there be something else thats similar?Thanks
Answer:
First change doctors. There is a test called an A1C test, I understand you don't like needles no one does. This blood test will check your glucose levels it might be low not high, both can cause similar reactions and your blood pressure could be low as well. Until you get tested, when you feel lightheaded have some almonds or walnuts as long as your not allergic to nuts it will level out your glucose or drink a glass of milk or orange juice and see how you feel. Blood is much more accurate than a urine test, the urine test will only tell you if there's sugar in your urine, the blood test if tell you if you have diabetes or low blood sugar. An inner ear problem can cause dizziness and light
headiness. I hope you feel better soon
you should no not me
Hello,
Urine glucose is not very accurate, you should get blood fasting glucose.
Also it could be other things causing your dizzy spells- simple faints, heart disease amongst other things.
Get a second opinion and check your blood glucose first.
Good luck
the blood tests for diabetes are pretty trustworthy and you should be grateful its not that .do u have a dry mouth often?do you feel the endless feeling of being thirsty?is the circulation in yourlegs ok? those are other signs of diabetes
id get a second opinion
See a different docor, and get another test done.
The urine tests are not always right, because the colour can change if you don't drink enough fluid. The urine can be darker in colour. Some dyes from food can cause this also. I would suggest you go to the doctor after fasting overnight and get a blood sample taken. This will show if are hypo/hyper diabetes. If you have, your doctor can take it from there. Another thing also, there could be some other medical condition causing this problem that resembles the symptons of diabetes. Have a chat with your doctor who can advise you more.
goto a lloyds pharmacy they test you for nowt
Are You Diabetic?The signs of diabetes may develop slowly in some people. Others may not show any signs at all. Signs to look for are: * Increased and frequent urination
* Increased thirst
* Weight loss along with increased hunger
* Blurred vision
* Weakness and feeling tired
* Frequent vaginal yeast infections
* And skin infectionsThe only sure way to detect diabetes is to have a blood test. Make an appointment with your doctor or at a clinic. Fast (no food or beverages) for 12 hours before testing to make sure you get good test results.For example: If you schedule a 10 a.m. appointment, make sure your last food eaten is before 10 p.m. the night before. You can drink water, but nothing else. Remember not to eat until after your blood test.
you might by hypoglycemic (i am ), which is low blood sugar. It is not as bad/dangerous as diabetes. but i personally think that people with hypoglecemia struggle just as much, if not more! People with diabetes are on a strict plan, and or diet. They have tools to monitor their blood sugar. I am here trying to balance this all on my own. It is difficult sometimes
If your not happy with your GP you can phone the local health authority and ask for a list of alternative Practices.
If you are concerned about your health then ask to have a blood test. It is a simple proceedure and with your symptons they can probably rule out some other possibilities as well.
You can buy a blood testing kit from a chemist, cost around 拢10. If your blood is over 15, I'd phone your doctor.If you find you are diabetic find a good diabetic nurse at a local hospital, there are alsorts of minor problems involved with taking insulin and being diabetic in general that your GP will know nothing about.
i had several test at my Dr's they all came back OK i went to hospital for a totally different thing and the gave me a test and told me i had been diabetic for 6 years it takes up to 10 years to reach your system in your body they told me i ad your symptoms
One of the main symptoms of diabetes is to pass lots of water. This is called polyuria. One way to know for sure if you have diabetes is to have a blood test know as a fasting plasma glucose test. It's a simple blood test that measures your blood sugar while your body is in a fasting state (usually after going 8 hours without eating). Contact a doctor that you trust and get the test done ASAP! If you do have diabetes you'll want to get a true diagnosis and begin treatment of the disease right away.
my husband was diagnosed with diabetes last year, they did a glucose test which required blood tests every hour or so to see how his body processed the sugar. we are currently managing it with diet, he is on no medication , have they checked you for thyroid?
Your symptoms sound like you need to have that checked too.
I would suggest if you are not comfortable with your doctor to find another one. You can go to ask M.D. and type in your question, and you should get an answer that maybe can send you in the right direction. Good Luck
I sympathize with you being needle phobic but you would need to overcome this if you are diabetic. Your symptoms could describe a lot of thing which could be ruled in/out by a simple blood test. Speak to you doctor about having a sample and explain your fears to a nurse, he/she will make it as painless as possible.
If you feel you do not trust your current doctor then seek another opinion.
